HOW TO RESEARCH - A QUICK GUIDE

1.  What is my SUBJECT?
     What do I already KNOW?  What do I want to LEARN? What do I NEED?
     BRAIN STORM.
     NARROW DOWN my topic.
     Identify KEY WORDS.

2.  How do I find INFORMATION?
     THINK of likely information sources.
     Library Catalogue—KEYWORD or SUBJECT. Search the shelves.
     Ask a LIBRARIAN.
     DATABASES—Epic, Index New Zealand.  
     INTERNET.   Google, Yahoo, Bing, Yippy. TE ARA, Online BRITTANICA ANYQUESTIONS & MANYANSWERS.

3.  EVALUATE the information sources for:
     * authority
     * accuracy
     * currency
     * suitability

4.  GATHER information from the resources I have evaluated. 
     SKIM and SCAN the resources for the information I require.
     RECORD my information.  Write it down, photocopy, scan, email.

5.   PROOF-READ!

6.   PRESENT my information.  Consider instructions and my audience:
      * poster              * report                * chart           * essay        * Powerpoint       * Slideshow
       Include a BIBLIOGRAPHY (list of resources I have used).

FINISHED?  WELL DONE!
